Russian Federation and U.S. could strike Syria deal within days: Vladimir Putin

Trudeau made the remarks today at the end of the G20 summit in China, where he urged fellow world leaders to fight back against growing anti-trade sentiments.

He says he would be hesitant to apply situations that might be described in other countries to Canada because Canadians are generally open, positive and optimistic about the future.

Obama said that he and Putin have had “productive conversations” about negotiating a “real cessation of hostilities” the war-torn Middle East Country, but that “gaps of trust” have prevented reaching an agreement.

Theresa May faces one of her most sensitive diplomatic encounters since becoming Prime Minister as she meets Chinese leader Xi Jinping for talks following the delay to the Beijing-backed nuclear power station at Hinkley Point.

“We had some productive talks about what a cessation of hostilities would look like for Russian Federation and the United States to focus on our common enemies”, he said.

Russian Federation is part of an alliance trying to defeat the Islamic State terrorist group in Syria and Iraq – but has been criticised for military action which appeared to be supportive of keeping the Syrian president Bashar al-Assad’s regime in power.

To revitalise global trade and investment as key engines of growth, the G20 members have agreed to adopt, for the first time, a set of common guidelines on worldwide investment, Xi revealed.

Emerging from a 90-minute meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in China, Mr. Obama acknowledged that the Russians have been attacking US institutions on the Internet.

The G20 called for the formation of a global forum to take steps to address steel excess capacity and encourage adjustments, the White House said in a statement, one of the controversial issues discussed at the summit.

Before the summit, a group of USA senators presented a letter to the president, pressing him to address cybersecurity in light of a February hacking in Bangladesh that allowed thieves to access the SWIFT banking network to withdraw almost $81 million from an account at the Federal Reserve Bank of NY.

“As the United Kingdom leaves the European Union, I’ve set out our ambition to become the global leader in free trade”, she said.

Prime Minister Theresa May also met Putin for the first time at the weekend and said she wants “a frank and open relationship” with Russian Federation. Speaking at the conclusion of the meeting, the International Monetary Fund’s Christine Lagarde said, “There must be more growth and growth must be more inclusive”.

It was the last time that Obama attended a G20 summit.

The summit got off to a rocky start Saturday when there was no staircase at the airport for Obama to exit his plane. The Islamic State has claimed responsibility for several of the attacks, which mostly targeted normally-secure regions controlled by the Syrian government or by Kurdish forces, NPR’s Alison Meuse reports.

A Chinese security official had also blocked National Security Adviser Susan Rice on the tarmac and yelled at another USA official trying to help journalists get closer to Obama.

“I will be doing exactly as you’ve said which is – as you know, I’ll be looking at all the evidence around this issue”, May replied.
