Cooper Ratten, 16, was in a auto with two other boys, when it rolled on Glenview Road in Yarra Glen in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The teenager was killed in a auto accident at Yarra Glen, north-east of Melbourne at 3am on Sunday.

A 17-year-old boy who was in the front seat was taken to Box Hill hospital with minor injuries while the 17-year-old driver was taken to Maroondah hospital and was in police custody.

Police will speak to the pair and lay charges if necessary, Det Sgt Yeoman said. Police have not yet confirmed whether the driver of the vehigle held a learner’s permit, or whether alcohol and drugs were involved.

The club’s primary focus will be supporting Brett and his family during this devastating time.

Yarra Glen Football Club president Vincent Erickson said Cooper and his two mates had been playing in a game on Saturday afternoon. “Our thoughts are with the families who have been directly impacted by this tragedy”.

“He was valued member of the club, he got on really well with his peers”, he told AAP.

“He was a respected kid and a talented footballer”, he said.

The 255-game star – who played in Carlton’s 1995 premiership – and ex-Blues’ coach revealed the extent of his heartache.
