Salmonella is a bacterial illness that can cause serious and potentially fatal infections in young children, older adults, and people with compromised immune systems.
Anyone seeking more information about the recall is asked to contact Asher’s Chocolates customer service line at 1-888-288-3880 or Giant’s customer service at 1-888-814-4268.
Giant has removed the products from the shelves of its stores, and there have not been any reports of illness as of Sunday, the news release states. No other production codes other than the ones stated are involved in the recall.
Customers who have purchased these products recently should return the unused portions with their receipt to the Giant location where they were bought for a full refund, the release said. A single sample from routine testing found the bacteria in a group of products. He said in 124 years of business, the company has never before detected salmonella.
