Facebook tests update to blogging tool ‘Notes’

It’s hardly surprising that Facebook might want to gain the same sort of reputation, especially with its earlier focus on embedding content directly into the newsfeed with things like Instant Articles launched earlier this year. They’ll certainly like the ease of use this provides as opposed to setting up a blog through WordPress or Blogger for example. It features a cover photo and a new look for the headline and body text; notably, it doesn’t include a sidebar with ads and other suggestions as older versions of Notes do.

Facebook is quietly testing new blogging features that could turn its little-known Notes system into a long-form platform, taking on Medium in the process.

Medium, the content platform pioneered by Twitter co-founder Evan Williams, appears to be gaining traction.

Interesting Opportunity for Bitcoin Exposure? The new look being tested on a subset of users takes cues from popular competitors like Yahoo’s Tumblr and Medium, featuring simple backgrounds punctuated by large photos. Facebook has over 1.5 billion users around the world, most of which have not even heard of Bitcoin in a proper manner just yet.

Though not likely to impact its bottom line, Facebook is rethinking its long-neglected Notes service.

The success of this platform largely depends on how it will be marketed and made available. As with other Facebook products, users can share a Note with the audience of their choice-say, a customized group of friends.
