No. 15 Houston upsets No. 3 Oklahoma

“I think it’d be a lock”.

Probably the biggest moment of the game, and there are a few different ways this could have gone.

The win was Houston’s fifth consecutive against a Power Five opponent, the longest such streak among non-Power Five teams.

Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops summed up the day with two field goal attempts.

The mothership has it right.

“They made some big plays overall and made some plays on third down, in particular …” In the meantime, it’s time to wait for Houston Twitter to completely ruin everyone’s love for Houston by being obnoxious jerks. Oliver looked explosive at the line against Oklahoma - he was powerful enough to burst through the Sooners’ blocking and nimble enough to chase down Mayfield as the Heisman candidate increasingly resorted to aimless scrambles against Houston’s flood of rushers. Then very inconsistent in the second half. Quinton Flowers threw for 178 yards and two touchdowns, helping host South Florida open the season with a 56-20 rout of overmatched Towson.

Meanwhile, P.J. Philip Walker had an absolutely terrible game for Temple. Rosen threw three interceptions while working under heavy pressure from a defense led by Myles Garrett. Two were on Temple’s last two possessions, the first of which Army converted for the game-clinching score.

NOTES: Oklahoma RB Samaje Perine left the game early in the second quarter because of a shoulder injury.

This looked like trouble in river city for awhile.

But it’s time to start talking seriously about what the #HTowntakeover might really mean.

The elusive quarterback Ward passed for 321 yards and two touchdowns.

It was never more evident than in Wilson’s “Kick Six” return. Their first half was rich in adroit fakes and unaccompanied receivers. USC punter Chris Tilbey bobbled the snap on the ensuing drive to set up Alabama at the Trojans 15 and lead to Hurts’ TD run. Darren Carrington caught seven passes for 117 yards and a touchdown. Offensively Mixon averaged 10.90 yards per touch….let that sink in for a minute.

The free beer is over in Orlando as the Knights finally broke their 13-game losing streak.

Kevin Anderson completed 26 of 45 passes for 302 yards with a touchdown for the Rams.

The Knights still have problems at quarterback, where Justin Holman was only 12-for-24 passing.

They faced adversity head on early in the game after Oklahoma cruised down the field and then held the Cougars out of the end zone on two impressive drives. The Sooners’ lone third-down wins came in the red zone, allowing Houston to connect on easy field goals. A team doesn’t have to when it trains and expects to win every game. “I came here with the rest of the brigade”. When Smith went down, though, the call went out for Perry. Tulane took the field in their badass new helmets and controlled the game statistically under new coach Willie Fritz.

However, after winning one of their major games of the season, Herman addressed one more unit that contributed throughout the game: their fans. Why don’t you watch it with me? “But I still have a strong belief in this team that we’re going to come out and be OK and continue to improve”. He also took a fourth-down sack to end the game. And Brandon Wilson’s 109-yard (unofficially) kick-six was his fourth special teams touchdown of his career. Zay Scott had 10 catches for 180 yards.

Ohio State plays Tulsa next week in its final tune-up game before heading to Oklahoma on September 17. Barry J. Sanders compiled 76 all-purpose yards and scored a touchdown. OU is going to have to find a second reliable cornerback and do it in a hurry.

The last time SMU visited Denton, North Texas retired June Jones with a humiliating 43-6 beatdown. The No. 15 Cougars trailed through the first quarter but Greg Ward Jr. and the offense quickly took over in the second.

Barrett was one of the primary architects of the blowout, as he completed 21 of 31 passes for 349 yards with six touchdown passes.

Tulsa tops San Jose St. They scored two defensive touchdowns and led 38-7 at halftime. But UH out-gained OU 410 yards to 390, netted more first downs, and was an incredible nine of 17 on third-down conversions (at one point the Cougars were an unbelievable nine-for-13). He had five carries for eight yards and four catches for 17 yards outside of those two major early plays.
