GCSE results: Chatsmore Catholic High School

A total of 5,434,597 GCSE results have been issued today, up on last year’s 5,429,478 – although there was a 70,000 increase in resitting students, around 52% of which are girls, down from 54% the previous year.

The school in South Woodham Ferrers were celebrating alongside their students this morning after 500 A* and A grades were reportedly obtained across their results.

And there was a big drop in the number achieving grade C or above in English which fell by more than five per cent to 60.2 per cent, and in maths the dip was more than two per cent to 61 per cent this year. Over half (51 per cent) of its Year 11 cohort achieved five or more A* to B grades, 81 per received A* to C in English language/literature and 86 per cent got an A* to C in maths.

Jonathan Johnson, principal at West Lakes Academy in Egremont, said since 2009 when the school turned into an academy, its five A* to C pass rates, including in English and maths, have improved from 27 per cent to 63 per cent this year.

Vice chairman of governors Paul Hartley was full of praise for the students’ achievements.

“Many of these students will now use these results as a springboard to further success as they continue their journey with Giles into the growing range of courses in our highly popular and successful sixth form”.

CHARTERS School pupils achieved GCSE results well above the national average despite an overall national decline.

“These fantastic GCSE results follow the best ever A level results at the college and this is a fitting way to end our thirtieth anniversary celebrations”.
