Samsung-Backed Fitness Belt is a Notch Above
The company that’s developed the belt, Welt Corporation, is supported by Samsung’s startup accelerator program and it’s looking for more backing on Kickstarter.

Welt says it still has close ties to Samsung, and the technology was developed before the company made a decision to spin off. The belt keeps track of three main general health indictors: waist size, activity, and food intake. So when you fill up on your family’s home cooking and need to loosen a notch, Welt notices, and will inform you of overeating patterns. “As the stylish alternative to previous belt fitness trackers, WELT can be worn at the office, on a walk or during your daily activities”. Thanks to an embedded pedometer and a magnetic clasp fitted in the buckle. Conveniently, the battery lasts about 20 days, which is charged via a micro USB charging port.
Have you ever eaten too much and just wished your belt had told you to stop before it cut off your legs’ blood supply?
According to the campaign, the “WELT” device looks and works just like any other belt in your closet, although posing the notable advantage of doubling up as a tracker. It does so by measuring the size of your tummy before and after meals. The pedometer can track your steps and calculate calories burned.
The company’s app for Android or iOS automatically organizes all that information on a single screen so you can understand it easily.
Besides the fitness aspect, the WELT is pretty much a regular belt. It will be available for both men and women, and in formal and casual designs.
The app also tracks rapid variations in the wearer’s waist size.
The Welt project team is looking to raise US$30,000 to take the design into production, and is close to reaching that goal at the time of writing, with over 30 days remaining on the campaign.
The WELT, which debuted at CES earlier this year, is described as a wellness belt that tracks health data and also provides tips/warnings for the user’s health. Kickstarter Special Editions of each come engraved with the backer’s name or a message.

Starting from $99 and rising to $199, WELT is available in a range of sizes, covering waist ranges from 28 to 44 inches, and will be available to snap up on Kickstarter for a further month, with shipping expected to begin in January 2017.
