Minnesota Vikings: Details emerge on Teddy Bridgewater injury

Bridgewater was still on the practice field grass as the team’s public relations staff ushered reporters from the premises.

With the defense the Vikings have, and if the running game can excel, then the Vikings need a quarterback similar to what Bridgewater was past year: a game manager who needs to stay away from mistakes.

About 2½ hours after the injury, Zimmer tried to straddle the line between expressing concern for a beloved teammate and keeping the rest of his team from losing focus and confidence. Though the ACL and “other structural damage” will likely end Bridgewater’s season, the Vikings expect him to make a full recovery, meaning we will hopefully get to see him play football again. This is the kind of injury that makes players go away for 12 months, maybe more.

Zimmer called Bridgewater’s knee injury “significant” and said the quarterback is still undergoing tests at the hospital, according to Tom Pelissero of USA Today.

Bridgewater dropped back to pass during a drill and planted his foot before crumpling to the ground. Everybody loves him. So it was disappointing for them and I didn’t think we were going to get much out of practice.

“Teddy’s such a great kid”, Zimmer said.

The Panthers reached last year’s Super Bowl, despite entering the season with 50/1 championship odds. Current backup quarterbacks who could become available, if they’re let go this weekend or offered in a trade, include Mike Glennon, Colin Kaepernick, Mark Sanchez, Geno Smith and Brandon Weeden.

The actions and statements of Colin Kaepernick of the San Francisco 49ers have drawn mix emotions from noted personalities. On Sunday, in elaborating on his protest, Kaepernick criticized the training of law-enforcement officers. It was simply a bad step, which resulted in a gruesome injury. Grasu tore his right ACL when he fell without being touched in practice in early August.

The Cincinnati Bengals released Brandon Tate, the franchise leader in punt returns, leaving room for a rookie to take the job.

Bridgewater has been an outstanding offensive weapon for the Vikings since being selected as a first round pick in the 2014 draft. Lawson only began working out on his own two weeks ago since having shoulder surgery in May to fix an injury that nagged him at Clemson. He is recovering from knee surgery.
