Police at the University of Maryland said a man was shot and they are looking for a suspect in an incident that unfolded early Tuesday morning on its College Park campus. The victim was taken to the hospital, and is in critical condition, police said.
The incident happened around 2 a.m. near the University College campus, which is near the large campus for mostly undergraduate students at the University of Maryland College Park.
A security guard was shot and injured. The guard’s name wasn’t released but Mitchell said he had worked at the facility for some time.
UMUC workers were initially told to stay away from the conference center, but now have been told it is safe to come to work.
They continue to search for the second, possibly armed suspect.
