If you attended the Great Minnesota Get-Together on Saturday, you were one of a record number of people to walk through the gates and enjoy the almost ideal summer weather.

This year could end up setting the record for the highest ever attendance at the State Fair, the current record for which is 1,824,830, set in 2014. Through Saturday, this year’s attendance was up about 6 percent over the same period in 2014 and 9 percent over the same period last year.

After Saturday’s record attendance, this year’s State Fair has had 1,554,389 visitors, putting it just 270,441 visitors away.

The Fair generates approximately $100 million annually for the local economy, and employs more than 2,800 people while it is underway, the release said.

Improvements included a new main gate, more open spaces, walking paths and landscaping, additional seating and shade, a larger and newly reconfigured midway, and a new 315-site RV park.
