“We were just talking and I was just asking questions and the normal questions and he mentioned that he was going to start Tuesday”. I’ll meet you there, I’ll go with you, whatever.’ I may not do anything other than get in the way like normal.
En esta imagen del 2 de agosto de 2015, se observa al manager de los Medias Rojas de Boston, John Farrell durante la octava entrada del juego ante los Rays de Tampa Bay. The two were teammates with the Indians in 1988, were reunited with the Detroit Tigers in 1996 (when Farrell was a reliever and Francona was Detroit’s third base coach) and later spent four seasons together on the Red Sox’s coaching staff, with Farrell serving under Francona as pitching coach from 2007 to 2010. “We were bad”, Francona said. Francona said the two became friends when they played together for the Indians in 1988. The more information you got to know about his guys he felt was going to help him put them in the right position to succeed.
“It’ll be good to see him”, Red Sox interim manager Torey Lovullo said of Francona. “That was amusing because that team had about five future managers, and I don’t think at the time any of us thought that was in our future”. “But then there’s a handful of people who are friends not just through baseball but outside of baseball, and he’s certainly one of those for me”. John and I became friends that year while we were there and we stayed friends and stayed in contact.

While their professional lives took different turns, the pair stayed close, evidenced by Francona’s choice to accompany his friend in his first step in his battle with cancer. That’s never been an issue with him, it’s always easy because he’s always been one of my best friends.
