Jacoby Ellsbury’s homer ruins night for Eduardo Rodriguez, Red Sox

Rohr’s start was one of eight he made for the Red Sox and he did so three games into Boston’s “Impossible Dream” season that ended with a World Series appearance. In the fifth, trouble found him in the form of a bad split-fingered fastball and a series of good at-bats from the Red Sox. “His velocity was up, he was locating his pitches well”.

The lone run he did allow came in the eight inning via a solo homer off the bat of Carlos Beltran.

Jones, obtained in a trade with Miami last offseason, was available off the bench against the Red Sox.

For five innings, there was little evidence that one pitcher is on a $155 million contract, and the other was making his debut; they put up similar lines through the middle of the game, with Tanaka allowing two runs, and Owens three. “For him to come out and tell me not to walk around the mound (makes me mad)”. What was more impressive, and something that stood out with Girardi and the Yankees is how Severino settled down after the home run ball and he followed up striking out Hanley Ramirez and Mike Napoli on 94-mile fastballs. He drilled a double to left and Gardner scored all the way from first, sliding headfirst. He worked five innings of relief in a 19-inning victory at Yankee Stadium on April 10.

Although he got a no-decision, the fired-up lefthander – who several times exchanged heated words with plate umpire Rob Drake – produced perhaps his best outing of the season in the Yankees’ 2-1 victory over the Red Sox in front of a sellout crowd of 48,608 at the Stadium. This would be a welcome addition to a Yankees rotation that has allowed 80 home runs this season, fourth-most in the American League.

Left fielder Ben Revere added three hits and three runs scored for the Blue Jays (58-52), who won their fifth straight game in completing a four-game sweep of the Twins. He threw a 1-2-3 first and then struck out Josh Rutledge with two runners on to end the second. Jackie Bradley Jr., who to that point was 0 for 9 with six strikeouts in his career against Sabathia, was next.

Sabathia brought plenty of both Thursday night.

The big left-hander had just walked Xander Bogaerts following Castillo’s run-scoring single that ticked off the glove of diving shortstop Didi Gregorius to tie it 1-all.

David Ortiz was next.

It was not the first time Sabathia became angered with an umpire. “This was just a tough one”.

On the mound, spun toward the outfield wall and literally shook as he flexed his arm and pumped his fist in celebration. The Boston slugger could be seen nodding his head on his way back to the dugout after his huge swing and miss with the bases loaded and the score tied. Our sixth-inning guy; people have stepped up and done a really good job. Although he only gave up only two hits, this could present a problem for him in future starts.
