The Wrap reports Tony Cervone will be directing the animated movie, and that’s someone Scooby-Doo fans should be well-acquainted with because he worked on the 2010 incarnation of the show, Scooby-Doo! “Mystery Incorporated.” Well-respected animation figure Dan Povenmire (“Phineas and Ferb“) will also be involved as an executive producer. The screenplay is by Matt Lieberman (“Dr. Dolittle: Tail to the Chief“).

You may be surprised to hear that this 11th iteration of Scooby-Doo was actually pretty well-received.
“It’s always a treat to see Scooby-Doo on the big screen and to share his larger-than-life adventures with audiences”, added Dan Fellman, President of Domestic Distribution. As anticipation grows throughout production, the movie’s mid-September release date should start the fall season with a burst of fun.
Intriguingly, Greg Silverman explained his excitement at bringing the characters back to the big screen, while hinting at the possibility of this new movie spearheading a wave of Hanna-Barbera characters in cinema.
Joining Roven and Suckle in producing duties will be Allison Abbate who produced not only the critically acclaimed (and much loved) The Iron Giant but also the Oscar-nominated features Fantastic Mr. Fox, Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride and Frankenweenie.
Kwan Vandenberg concluded, “Scooby-Doo and his friends have the kind of universal appeal that reaches across cultures as well as generations”.

We can’t believe it’s been over eleven years since Scooby-Doo had a theatrical release… but that’s all about to change. Plus it’s a “new take on the franchise”, according to another WB exec, Veronika Kwan Vandenberg.
