LSU’s Josh Boutte delivers a late hit against Wisconsin’s D’Cota Dixon.

Rafael Gaglianone kicked a 47-yard field goal with 3:47 remaining, and Wisconsin staved off No. 5 LSU’s desperate last-ditch drive for a 16-14 victory Saturday at Green Bay’s Lambeau Field in a game that dealt an early blow to the Tigers’ national title hopes.

Wisconsin linebacker T.J. Watt, brother to Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt, ran to Wisconsin coach Paul Chryst and said he “didn’t think” LSU could hear its offensive cadences. On second-and-5, Fournette broke off a 9-yard run to the LSU 44 and eclipsed 3,000 career yards. Coach Les Miles was same old Coach Les Miles, sporting a frustrating display on offense and leaving more to desire out on the field. “I just can’t imagine that he saw him go down and then made it back”. Running back Leonard Fournette had 23 rushes for 138 yards and added three catches for 38 yards.

According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, LSU is favored in this contest, as the Tigers are getting odds of -10.5 points against the Badgers. Coach Les Miles said Fournette would have returned if LSU got the ball back. He was almost run out of Baton Rouge after a 9-3 season in 2015.

“We knew what was at stake this season”.

A win like this for this UW defense can go a long way when it comes to the season as a whole.

A nine-play, 24-yard drive ended with a 30-yard field goal by Gaglianone. “Far from flawless, but they just kept playing and found a way just to make plays”, coach Paul Chryst said.

“We’re happy to get a win today and move forward”. Miles left he and his coordinators – Cam Cameron on offense and Dave Aranda on defense – with just young graduate assistants upstairs. Injuries and an off-field issue maligned a 2015 season in which he was supposed to take over as the latest star running back at Wisconsin, in the lineage of Melvin Gordon, Montee Ball and Ron Dayne. However, quarterback Brandon Harris was intercepted at the Badgers 25. Houston, who is 23, is named for former Green Bay Packers QB Bart Starr. He targeted Dupre nine times, completing just three of those, and Harris tossed two interceptions – one into double coverage to end the first half and that pick on LSU’s final offensive play. But what are we?

“Him leaving (had) a lot of people saying, ‘Will we fall off on defense, ‘ and this and that”, senior cornerback Sojourn Shelton said, noting there is no love lost between anyone on the team and Aranda. “Obviously, there were a couple plays that we’ve got to learn from and learn not to do, but I thought he kept his poise in it and did some good things”.

LSU: The Tigers will likely nosedive out of the Top 10 when the next poll comes out Tuesday. He and Kendall Beckwith will lead the defense and stop everything Wisconsin tries to do offensively. It was a bad game of turnovers for the Tigers that led to the loss.

Wisconsin has been a tough team to beat for years, but a team that has struggled to get signature wins on the national stage.

As a result of the ejection, Boutte will be suspended for LSU’s next game, at home September 10 vs. Jacksonville State. It was the first of many big plays for Connelly, who finished with a career-high seven tackles, one behind fellow inside linebacker Jack Cichy for the team lead.
