Zayn Malik, Dick Wolf to Produce New Boy Band Drama Series
The project, tentatively title Boys (of course), will follow the formation of a massively popular boy band a la One Direction, Backstreet Boys or even O-Town, and all the rock-star luxuries that come with it.

The project marks a foray into a new, lighter genre for Wolf who is at the helm of the ever-expanding “Chicago” franchise, now with four series on NBC’s slate, and the long-running procedural “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit”.
Recording artist Zayn Malik, Len Blavatnik’s Unigram and First Access Entertainment have formed a creative partnership with Universal Television to develop the show.
“We were intrigued by the synergistic potential that Zayn brings to the project”.
Since leaving One Direction, Zayn put out his debut solo album, Mind of Mine, in March, but hasn’t been able to play many live shows recently due to panic attacks. The series, dubbed Boys, is now in development and is said to be inspired by Malik’s experiences during his One Direction tenure. Cameron is on board as a co-executive producer for the project, with Stennett attached as executive music producer. “‘Boys will be a show that’s totally integrated on broadcast and digital platforms”. The Emmy victor, who has called NBC home since 1990, boasts four scripted dramas on the network this fall with Law & Order: SVU, Chicago Fire, Chicago P.D. and Chicago Med.
There’s growing evidence that all celebrities will eventually be swept up into Dick Wolf’s TV universe.

If Boys goes to series, it would be NBC’s first musical series since Smash was canceled in 2013. Original songs? Yes, please!
