Cube famously left N.W.A. after a dispute with the group’s manager Heller after unpaid royalties. While not commenting on those claims, Ice Cube conceded that Heller’s passing provided a time for reflection.

JERRY HELLER, the music executive famous for managing NWA, passed away on SEPTEMBER 2nd. “It’s only right. I ain’t gonna pop no champagne but I ain’t gonna shed no tears either”. I just know Eazy was waiting for Jerry at Heaven’s doors, and they are now kicking back in Heaven together. Heller’s relationship similarly crumbled with Dr. Dre, but he remains close with Eazy-E until the rapper’s death in 1995. “I am forever grateful for all he did for the Diva Docs, his huge heart, and I so am glad we had the opportunity to present his truth”. We’ve come a long way, and you know, the passing of Jerry Heller is a thing, that’s a part of life. The two never made up and have feuded on and off for years, whether it was Heller’s book, or over the 2016 feature film, Straight Outta Compton. “He lived many years of people hating him and thinking wrongly of him, and people don’t know the truth”, she said.

He helped to accelerate the rise of NWA and the gangsta-rap movement as the group’s original manager, and co-founded the highly influential Ruthless Records with group member Eazy-E in the ’80s.
