Philippines president Rodrigo Duterte has expressed regret over his “son of a whore” remark while referring to Barack Obama.

Obama, on his first visit to Laos, was speaking on the sidelines of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations summit and other related meetings.
Soon after the comments, Obama canceled a planned meeting with the Duterte.
Duterte insisted he would not take orders from the United States, a former colonial ruler of the Philippines, and did not care about how he was perceived. You must be respectful.
The White House had earlier said Obama would not pull any punches on his concerns about human rights abuses in the Philippines, its treaty ally, when meeting Duterte.
“Our primary intention is to chart an independent foreign policy while promoting ties with all nations, especially the USA with which we have had a longstanding partnership”, he said. “Putang ina, I will swear at you in that forum”.
In his comments on Monday, President Duterte pledged to continue with his anti-drugs campaign that has led to the killing of 2,400 suspected drug dealers and users in the Philippines since he took office in June. “We’re in agreement that the area should not be just confined to a particular – it should be shared as it has always been shared”.
“Today I stand with you in acknowledging the sacrifices on all sides of that conflict”, Obama said.
But faced with the Obama backlash on Tuesday, Duterte offered a rare moment of contrition, albeit qualified.
“We also regret it came across as a personal attack on the USA president”, Duterte said in the statement.

“On the economic front, Vietnam was encouraging that the Philippines can come to Vietnam and invest more, have more trade”.
The verdict was widely seen as a sweeping victory for the Philippines, which filed the suit under the previous administration of Benigno Aquino.
China rejects those accusations and accuses the United States of ratcheting up tensions unnecessarily. But Duterte has cast doubt on that strategy. “It reflects fundamental national interests”, he said in the Laos national cultural hall on Tuesday (Sept 6) afternoon before about 1,000 people. -Philippine relations blossomed, expressed disappointment over the aborted meeting with the U.S.
Obama says Asia-Pacific is home to more than half the world’s population and will become even more important in the century ahead.
Obama presented the U.S.as a friendly partner for smaller Asian nations, stressing that it would “not impose our will” on Laos and would work on the basis of “mutual respect”.

“Across the region, including in the East and South China Seas, the United States will continue to fly, sail and operate wherever worldwide law allows and support the right of all countries to do the same”, he said.
