The Nigerian Air Force on Tuesday said it has recorded another major success in the ongoing counter-insurgency and counter terrorism operations against the Boko Haram Terrorist sect in the North East.

The countries surrounding Lake Chad are all contributing to a multinational force to combat Boko Haram, making recent gains against the insurgents who pledged allegiance to the Islamic State group a year ago.

An army spokesman said warplanes struck as the militants met for Friday prayers last week at a village deep within the Sambisa forest in Borno State.

Abubakar Shekau “Those Boko Haram terrorists commanders confirmed dead include Abubakar Mubi, Malam Nuhu and Malam Hamman, amongst others”, the army colonel wrote. While their leader, so called “Abubakar Shekau”, is believed to be fatally wounded on his shoulders.

A week later, Shekau released an audio message saying that he is still the leader of the movement and that he is “personally responsible” for fighting “against Nigeria and the entire world”.

Of the 475,000 deemed at risk, 49,000 in Nigeria’s Borno state, Boko Haram’s heartland, will die this year if they do not receive treatment, according to the United Nations’ child agency, which is appealing for $308 million to cope with the crisis. Shekau has insisted he is still in charge.

Sidestepping any potential embarrassment, Kerry made no mention of the claim that Shekau – Boko Haram’s leader since 2009 – had been wounded and did not take questions from the press.

The protest comes a week after Islamist militants from the group Boko Haram released a new video showing as many as 50 of the kidnapped girls. The extremist group pledged allegiance to the Islamic State terrorist group, outlawed in Russian Federation and many other countries, in March 2015.

Stay on topic – This helps keep the thread focused on the discussion at hand.

“Of particular note is the operation you conducted on the 19th of this month, it was a night operation and we were very lucky to deal with these guys (insurgents) who had en-massed and were planning an attack”.
