‘Star Wars: Episode IX’ books ‘Jurassic World’ director

Chairman Bob Iger happily announced the installation of the “Star Wars” theme to their parks during the recent Disney’s D23 Expo, USA Today reported. One will be at Disneyland Anaheim in California, and the other will be in Disney’s Orlando theme park in Florida.

Disney reps did not comment on whether lightsabers, proton torpedoes or electrostaffs will be allowed on park premises, but keep those fingers crossed. Disney will also be adding the interactive Star Wars Launch Bay and introducing a new seasonal event, Season of the Force, which will update Space Mountain to become Hyperspace Mountain where guests will participate in an X-Wing battle.

Eager fans can console themselves with separate “Star Wars” attractions appearing in Disney’s parks later this year, to coincide with the release of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens“. Star Wars and Lucasfilm veteran Doug Chiang (“Star Wars: Episodes I-II”, “Forrest Gump”) and Neil Lamont (supervising art director for the “Harry Potter” series, “Edge of Tomorrow”) will be the production designers.

At 14 acres each, the expansions will be Disney’s largest ever, CEO Bob Iger said. “The attractions, the entertainment, everything we will create will be a part of our storytelling transporting our guest to a world of fantasy, adventure and fun”. Lucasfilm announced that the director for Star Wars: Episode IX would be Jurassic World’s Colin Trevorrow.

While exact details on the attractions are scarce, each new theme park will feature at least two new rides, one of which will let you take control of the Millennium Falcon (!), and another that’ll be set inside the wretched hive of scum and villainy that is the Mos Eisley cantina.

While there is no definite time frame on when the two Star Wars attractions will open, current visitors will already have a glimpse into the rides that may be offered.
