Thailand’s health authorities have stepped up surveillance on the spread of Zika after two women in Bangkok were found to have been infected with the deadly virus.

The Zika virus behind an outbreak in Singapore was not imported from South America, Singapore’s Ministry of Health said in a statement Saturday.

Zika causes only mild symptoms such as fever and a rash for most people but pregnant women who catch it can give birth to babies with microcephaly, a deformation marked by abnormally small brains and heads.
