England haunted by Iceland loss – Allardyce

Rooney made his 116th worldwide appearance on Sunday as England marked Sam Allardyce’s first match as national team manager with a last-gasp 1-0 win away to Slovakia, secured by Adam Lallana’s injury-time goal in a 2018 World Cup qualifier away to Slovakia. “The ref has seen it and I think it deserved another yellow card”.

Wayne Rooney became England’s most capped player after he played his 116th worldwide match against Slovakia.

“I must admit, he did play a little deeper than I thought he’d play”.

Rooney, England’s captain, has been playing as a number 10 for Manchester United this season and Allardyce indicated prior to Sunday’s game that he would use him in a similar role.

Sam Allardyce needed a moment of luck to snatch victory on his bow as England manager, but goalscorer Adam Lallana had to share the credit with a shiny gold coin.

“Yes, I’d like him to get forward a bit more”.

“I went to Slovakia with very realistic expectations”.

“Unfortunately there was a lot of talk last year and I managed to prove a lot of people wrong, so people will talk this year as well”, Kane was quoted as saying by Sky Sports. “I can’t stop Wayne playing there”, he said.

But while that goal gives Allardyce three crucial points, as much for their symbolic value as their usefulness in a World Cup qualifying group England should navigate with relative ease from here on, it did not paper over every crack. Oh, I don’t know …’ But we have to be courageous. It’s got us a last-minute victor.

Rooney, 30, started the game in midfield alongside Jordan Henderson in a 4-1-4-1 system. The fans here were happy and the goal came in their end.

“And for ourselves as well because we were the most unhappy of everyone and there is a long way to go until we are happy again”. His 178 goals in the Premier League, for United, is also a record for the most scored at a single Premier League club.
