Scott can’t haul in McIlroy at PGA event
It was 27-year-old McIlroy’s first tournament win since the Irish Open in May and first PGA title since May 2015.

McIlroy cited an ever-increasing maturity level and a reluctance to get down on himself as the reasons for this week’s win. “There were a lot of things going through my mind and one of them was not winning this golf tournament but from thereon I have played some great golf and holed some great putts this week”.
“It’s just incredible, this game, how quickly things can change and how quickly things can turn around”.
This latest victory was unlikely on a number of counts, given he laboured in his first round on Friday and was four-over through only three holes.
McIlroy played the final 69 holes in 19 under par.
“I’m just really proud of myself the way I hung in there that first day and then to get some momentum on Saturday and just go with it”.
“I think he overdid the weight room, I don’t that helped him at all”, Miller said during the Open Championship broadcast.
McIlroy started the final round at TPC Boston six shots adrift of overnight leader Paul Casey, but finished two clear of the Englishman at the top after holing seven birdies in a six-under-par 65 to reach 15-under 269.
PGA champion Jimmy Walker closed with 70 to finish solo third at 12.
Trees, reeds, and shrubs danced in the wind at the TPC Boston.
McIlroy has secured the third position in the next set of world rankings.
Countryman Jason Day, the world No.1, rattled home with a 67 to tie for 15th at eight-under. He stormed from six shots back for his second Deutsche Bank title.
History is now on McIlroy’s side.
Deutsche Bank gave him the blue belt with a large silver buckle when McIlroy won four years ago, and because this was the last year it is sponsoring the tournament, the company wanted him to keep it. “I have won Race to Dubais and I have won order of merits and been a money victor on the PGA Tour but never lifted the FedEx Cup itself”, McIlroy said.
Rory McIlroy is back in FedEx Cup contention. Curran (69th) and Marc Leishman (70th) just made the cut for the BMW Championship. “It’s amusing, four years on, and I win here and going back to Indy where I have great memories from four years ago”.
He had a reputation for playing his best golf in pristine conditions, odd for a kid who grew up in Northern Ireland. “I wasn’t getting impatient, I wasn’t searching for things”.

Having a marquee name like McIlroy take the final Deutsche Bank Championship (the title sponsor is switching to EMC Corporation) was a ideal ending for our local PGA Tour affair on a day when having an ending at all was in doubt because of Mother Nature.
