Google Hangouts now has its own website

Previously, if you wanted to launch Hangouts from your desktop, you’d need to access the service through Gmail, Inbox, Google+, or through a Chrome extension or Chrome application. It’d make some sense to continue making Hangouts available from within Google+ as well, but no word on that. There are additional options in the menu button on the top left corner like links to download the app in a mobile device or the Hangouts Dialer.

We can now use Hangouts in the browser, via a dedicated web page.

While the new website wont satisfy users who still want a dedicated Hangouts application for their computers, it’s a much nicer experience than using it through Google+ or the old website. Well after today’s Marshmallow announcement, Google slipped a little update to everyone. The site lets you open up multiple conversations at once just as you’ve been doing in Gmail since the dawn of time. Is this a welcome addition, or do you think this is kind of unnecessary? This new interface syncs with all of the devices that have the app across every platform, so the conversation can be continued from any of them.

For those who are unfamiliar, Material Design is a new design language that Google has adopted in quite a number of its apps and services, such as the recent overhauled Google Hangouts app.
