Greta Van Susteren leaves Fox News

Hume is no stranger to the anchor’s chair, having spent 10 years anchoring “Special Report” at Fox News. He will appear this evening, the network said Tuesday.

Van Susteren could not be reached for immediate comment.

In her own statement, Carlson says, “I am gratified that 21st Century Fox took decisive action after I filed my Complaint. The clause had a time limitation, meaning I could not wait”.

Geraldo Rivera responded to the news of Van Susteren’s exit on Twitter. A person familiar with the situation came about as the result of a “financial disagreement”. “On Thursday night, I made my decision and informed Fox News of my decision that I was leaving Fox News Channel per my contract”. “Let’s first get something straight: I did not sexually harass anyone (of course.)”.

She can not leap to a new network right away, however, due to the terms of her Fox contract.

Update: Susteren posted the following message on her Facebook page explaining her departure, noting, in part, that she hadn’t felt at “home” at Fox for the past few years. Some on-air staffers have a “key man” clause that tied their employment with the network to Ailes’ tenure there. Once Ailes left, she had a chance to leave too.

If Hume doesn’t take the assignment long term, Fox will probably look at some of it’s current anchors-Martha MacCallum would be my preferred choice-to take over and keep the Fox News ratings machine humming along.

She joined Fox News Channel in 2002, and began anchoring “On The Record“.

No reason was provided for the departure which was announced Tuesday morning.
