Jerry Jones has legendary quote about not putting Tony Romo on IR

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones had an interesting explanation for keeping quarterback Tony Romo on the roster.

“His importance to us to be in a game is really kind of unique”, Jone said.

There’s been talk about placing Romo on injured reserve, which would prevent the veteran quarterback from practicing before Week 7 or playing in a game before Week 9.

The acquisition of Mark Sanchez means that the Cowboys will have a backup plan in case Rookie Dak Prescott is still not ready for starting quarterback job as it will be his first time to take the field for a real game.

Romo is not expected to play for at least six weeks and might be out until November with a compression fracture in his back, the third major back injury of his career. So some of these kinds of things that have been around, these traditional healing times aren’t necessarily as bright lined as you might like them to be.

“I don’t want to rule out anything”. “I don’t know that anybody is qualified to do that”. The decision by Jerry Jones is due to an urge to wait and see if there is a chance Romo happens to be able to come back later in the season.

Plus, Jones doesn’t think there is anyone good enough to replace Romo on the 53-man roster. There’s just not enough value there realistically to bring someone else in. Medicine basically gives you estimates and guidelines, and I’m not trying to be vague here, but there’s no need to rule out anything.
