Paul Scholes demolishes Premier League with damning comments
England is home to the richest domestic television deal, but in an excerpt from his new book appearing in The Guardian, Scholes said Spanish clubs’ recent success in Europe is proof they have pulled away from the Premier League in terms of quality on the pitch.

Writing in Class of 92 – Out of our League – Our Journey Back to the Heart of the Game, Scholes lambasts the quality of the modern English top flight and points to European showings to show Spain’s superiority.
“I think under Louis van Gaal they were a little bit sedate when they were chasing a game or chasing a victor towards the end, whereas this was like the Alamo”.
“In the quarter finals of the Champions League and Europa League in 2015-16, they had six of the 16 teams”. Almost half of them. Scholes has criticized the quality of the Premier League.
The book covers the experience of the Class of ’92’s (Nicky Butt, Gary Neville, Scholes and Giggs), and Phil Neville, as they run non-league club Salford City. “And why clubs like that are the best teams”.
Paul Scholes has revealed his indifference towards Premier League football, with the Manchester United legend claiming he’d rather watch non-League action.
“The best players are in Spain or at Bayern Munich and Juventus”. He does not even mention Paul Pogba or Zlatan Ibrahimovic when he highlights his three “best players” – who, perhaps ironically, all come from Manchester City.
Scholes wrote, ‘Other than Sergio Agüero, Kevin De Bruyne and David Silva, we don’t have the best players. He started playing a few games for them last season. “I think the manager’s strengthened in good areas with top-quality players and I think the rest of the team are raising their standards to join them”.
“You never see a Lionel Messi coming over here, you never see a Neymar in the Premier League”. “It’s hard to think of any”, Scholes said. “Hull made it really hard for them defensively, yet they kept going and you could see at some point in the game that they were going to score”, Sharpe told reporters.

“It’s a club that is a cooperative owned by the fans, not by one businessman or a group of individuals”.
