Four fires are burning in Yellowstone. Hundreds of homes remain threatened by the fire in rugged wilderness coast along Highway 1.

Wildfire in California: As of Tuesday, the so-called Hart Fire had been 10 percent contained while officials were hopeful that a pair of fires, dubbed the Spokane Complex, could be contained within their existing footprints.

In eastern Idaho, an 81-square-mile rangeland wildfire burning grass, brush and juniper is spreading to the east and south due to high winds and low humidity.

The evacuations were ordered east of Idaho Falls, where up to 70 buildings were threatened near U.S. Highway 26, the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday.

“Operations are running smoothly”, Klein said.

About 1,800 firefighters are fighting the blaze Thursday that’s burning in remote, mountainous country near Lowman. It’s also the heavy smoke in the air. The advisory remains in effect through Thursday.

“When we were driving around Yellowstone, we could just see fire around the mountains”, Guardado said Wednesday.

It’s burning about 23 miles northwest of Logan, and about one-fourth of a mile from the Beaver Mountain Ski Resort, which was on pre-evacuation notice this week.

Fire officials say crews have made progress in securing fire lines and protecting structures.

“The devastating fire jumped the Spokane River from Lincoln County onto the Spokane reservation in three separate locations”, Sijohn said. Residents were told to evacuate after the town lost power. But that order has since been lifted, Sijohn said.

Another fire south of Spokane, in the Valleyford area, was 50 percent contained. The fires have burned a total area well over 50 square miles.

More firefighters headed to Yellowstone and Grand Teton national parks, where large, growing wildfires have closed or threaten key roads and forced the evacuation of a large campground during a busy stretch of the summer tourist season.

The blazes come at the height of the summer tourist season and as officials in both parks prepare for celebrations set for Thursday marking the 100th anniversary of the creation of the National Park Service. A route leading into Yellowstone’s South Entrance was shut down, so visitors coming from the south through Wyoming had to take a detour into Idaho.
