Starting for the Dallas Cowboys on September 11 against the New York Giants will be a first for Dak Prescott, but not entirely.

Few things bring out memes like something bad happening to the Cowboys.

The Cowboys went 4-12 last season, including 1-11 with three backup quarterbacks, as Romo missed 12 games.

Romo missed the majority of last season after twice breaking his collarbone, and has previously battled with fractured bones in his back.

The eighth quarterback taken in the draft with the 135th overall pick, Prescott is likely to be the first of those to start in the regular season. A fourth round rookie, who was initially supposed to be the #3 on the depth chart.

While Prescott was known for making plays with his legs at Mississippi State, his passing stats have been equally impressive in the preseason.

Sunday is the first full day of practice for the Cowboys since Romo’s injury and Garrett said his message to the team is to “focus on doing our jobs” because adversity is an unavoidable part of the game. The Boys I believe are still optimistic about this season due to a great preseason peformance by rookie quarterback Dak Prescott. Romo left the game after the play. He later said he thought he would be fine, a statement echoed by Garrett and team owner Jerry Jones.

“Again it’s not related to the other back issues that he’s had (and is) very specific to the hit he took the other night at the game”, Garrett said. The Cowboys also plan to sign a veteran during Romo’s absence. The injury continued a maddening injury trend that has sacked the Cowboys’ quarterback in recent years.

Coach Jason Garrett wouldn’t say whether Prescott will be held out against the Texans.

The Cowboys will now turn to Prescott who has had a sensational pre-season, completing 39 of 50 passes for 454 yards and five touchdowns with no interceptions.
