India set for broadband disruption with Jio launch
Devoting an hour of his speech at the RIL’s 42th Annual General Meeting, the billionaire industrialist said Jio is targeting 100 million users in a shortest possible time.

Mukesh Ambani, Reliance’s chairman and the richest man in India, noted, “India and Indians can not afford to be left behind”, Ambani said.
The company also asked the incumbents to provide mobile number portability facility to Jio – which allows a customer to migrate from one subscriber to another, while retaining the existing telephone number – now that commercial services have been announced.
Jio is the first cellular network with a major focus on cellular data users and youths, which is the reason Mukesh Ambani brought his children into the spotlight. Reliance Jio will not charge for voice calls and its data prices will be “cheapest in the world” as per Mukesh Ambani. “Put an end to all voice call charges for all voice calls that are domestic”, Ambani said.
Jio’s data plans are voice-free, low-data-cost services geared for video delivery. “We have decided to make our voice services free, and will never charge for it anytime now or in the future”.
The news of Reliance Jio’s new network and plans is supposedly shaking up the other three main wireless carriers in India, including Airtel, Vodafone, and Idea to adjust their own plan pricing, according to Mashable.
Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited (Jio) launched its digital services with Jio Welcome Offer which will be effective from 5 September, 2016.
Reliance announced a total of 10 tariff plans in yesterday’s AGM of the company. The users of the Jio 4G sim can avail unbelievable offers on internet packs as well as on the voice calls packs. Ambani added that the new network is future-proofed to support 5GB and even 6GB data speeds when they arrive.
Jio SIM- which so far was available only at Reliance Digital stores will now also be offered through multi-brand outlets. “In our data plans, the effective rates will be 5p per MB or Rs 50 per GB…”

Apple iPhone users in India can install or update My Jio app and click on “Get Jio Sim” banner. Moreover, students will get 25% more data on all the Jio tariff plans. “But they are already established players and they can give a good fight to Reliance Jio, which is a newbie in this business”.
