Patriots Drop Preseason Finale to the Giants 17-9, Quick Observations

Brady will miss the first four games of the 2016 season after a court upheld NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell’s ruling from the Deflategate scandal. With Brady’s suspension looming, the Patriots were obviously looking to get their Hall of Fame quarterback some extra reps against the Giants second team defense. The Giants also forced a pair of fumbles, recording three takeaways in the first half. While that, in and of itself, isn’t unusual, the fact that he is suspended to start the season, and his backup has never started an National Football League game, makes the move an interesting one to say the least. It was 2001, when Drew Bledsoe started the first two games before suffering a serious chest injury – opening the door for a second-year quarterback from MI drafted 199th overall. “It was a good opportunity to get out there and play”. Saturday’s home opener against St. Augustine’s will be streamed on ncataggies.com, as will the October 29 game against Florida A&M and the November 5 contest vs. S.C. State.

Brady completed 16 of 26 passes for 166 yards, a touchdown and an interception as the Patriots (3-1) missed out a flawless preseason in a 17-9 loss to the Giants (2-2).

As the game entered the fourth quarter, the score stood at 10-9, and the Giants had the lead.

It’s yet another show of support from the Patriots to their franchise quarterback, and maybe another subtle shot at the NFL.

Brady later hit Chris Hogan for 16 yards and Julian Edelman for 11 in moving the Patriots from their 6 to the 44 before punting.

CHASING HISTORY: The Patriots have a chance to pass the Oakland Raiders as the only team to advance to six straight conference championship games. The first-round pick from Memphis was 13 of 22 for 214 yards and two touchdowns with an interception in Denver’s 38-17 loss to the Cardinals. “Coach and I talked about it”, Brady said. “He was like, ‘I got you after the game.’ So it’s pretty cool”. He was making plays in the backfield, setting the edge well for a guy who is built like he is. “That part, I think will be very challenging watching those games in September, but I’ll find ways to preoccupy my mind”. It will be exciting and, obviously, we can’t wait for his return.

“Hopefully, I can use that perspective and then come back with better perspective, saying, ‘Wow, I really noticed some things that maybe I wouldn’t have seen had I been there, ‘” he added.
