After the match, Serena said that she is really excited to know that she has won her 308 match.

“I just think winning 308 matches in general is pretty awesome”. But as for Serena Williams, she has played some of her best tennis, and just yesterday, she beat Yaroslava Shvedova for a spot in the quarterfinals.

Should Williams win her seventh U.S. Open title, she’d set the all-time record for majors in the modern women’s era. However she kept on playing, and the records just keep piling up.

Williams has beaten Halep in seven of their eight previous meetings, most recently in March at Indian Wells in straight sets. She came out to play good tennis. I don’t have to be afraid or to have emotions because I have nothing to lose.

“But I just wanted to beat her, not the crowd, (it) is impossible to beat 23,000 people”. Williams is as powerful and graceful as ever, she just had three lost point service as reported by Ed McGrogan.

Serving for the match at 5-4 Halep was broken, but she broke back immediately and made no mistake with her second chance.

“I really played the ideal point there”, the sixth-seeded Williams said about her chance to end things while up 5-4 in the third set, and Pliskova serving at 30-40, “and she managed to stay alive”.

“To be honest”, Pliskova said, “it was really hard. when I lost my serve”.

“Everyone I’m playing is playing like they’re number one. For that to be in a Grand Slam is pretty cool”, she said. Until this tournament, she never had been past the third round in 17 appearances at majors. She was stunned by 18-year old unseeded Croatian Ana Konjuh, 4-6, 4-6.

She avenged a second-round loss at Wimbledon in which she held three match points against the Pole. Then top-seeded Serena meets 52nd-ranked Yaroslava Shvedova. Women: No. 2 Angelique Kerber vs.

Her run to the quarters means the American must at least reach the final to stay top for a 187th consecutive which would, of course, be a record.

Even when the public address system blared out accidentally as she prepared to serve early in the final game she wasn’t rattled.

– Novak Djokovic is the only non-French player left in his half of the draw but will be buoyed by his record against French opponents when he faces Jo-Wilfried Tsonga on Tuesday for a place in the quarter-finals.

“I had to run a lot and I tried to be more aggressive”, said No.5 seed Halep, who made the semi-finals past year – the Romanian’s best showing at the US Open.
