Obama: Kaepernick’s protest ‘a tough thing’ for military community
As of 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon, Kaepernick’s jersey was listed as the top seller on the NFL Shop’s website, ahead of Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz and Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott.

His jersey (above) is now priced at $99.99 for a men’s size on the 49ers’ apparel website for the NFL. That makes sense considering his status as a backup quarterback coming off a subpar season.
RENTON Jeremy Lane will sit again this weekend during the National Anthem before the Seahawks’ season opener, continuing his protest of racial inequality in our country.
Now the Niners quarterback has an even more powerful name on his side, kind of: President Barack Obama.
Daniel Durbin, the director of the USC Annenberg Institute of Sports, Media and Society, said that strong jersey sales for a second-string National Football League player “typically reflect some sort of celebrity that goes beyond accomplishments on the playing field”. People are upset about Kap and others protesting the flag, but America is built on freedom.
While noting the meaning of the flag and the national anthem, the president said there was a long history of sports figures making political statements.
The president added that he doesn’t doubt Kapernick’s sincerity.
“It’s about people having that right to have their voice, and I think it’s cool that Jeremy Lane is doing what he wants to do”, Bennett said.
You’ve heard me talk about in the past for the need for us to have an active citizen.
But I’d rather have young people that are engaged in the argument and trying to think through how they can be part of our democratic process than people just sitting on the sidelines not participating at all. The quarterback says his silent protest is meant to bring attention to the issue of racial inequality and injustice, specifically the killing of minorities by police. “And we have, like I have been telling you, we have a great group of guys that lead this team and they are going to help us as we move forward”.
Since Kaepernick began his protest, many fans have said on social media that they want to purchase his jersey as a sign of solidarity.

Kaepernick, 28, faced national attention after he refused to stand for The Star-Spangled Banner during a preseason game against the Green Bay Packers.
