St Helens Tesco Extra to cease 24-hour trading
Tesco has announced that it will reduce the number of stores open 24 hours, potentially leading to nationwide job losses.

The supermarket giant has revealed plans to cut the opening hours at 30 of its stores across the country, which now open 24-hours, although it has confirmed that the store at Chineham Shopping Centre, in Basingstoke, will not be affected by this.
A spokesman for the Union of Shop, Distributive and Allied Workers, (Usdaw), confirmed that they are supporting members in the South Yorkshire area.
A Tesco spokesman said the supermarket giant has now launched a consultation process with its staff, who will be offered alternative roles or roles in other stores “wherever possible”.
One worker, who asked not to be named, said: ‘They’ve told us they are eradicating the night shift in non-profitable stores.
The company is looking at changing late-night operations and ending 24-hour openings in some outlets.
Tesco saw a 15% growth in online shopping in the first half of 2015 and are now looking to change accordingly.
JOBS could be under threat at Tesco as the supermarket make changes to stores across the country.
“We understand this may be disruptive for some of our colleagues and where there have been changes to a colleague’s role we will be working really hard to ensure they are fully supported”.
Another user said: “I’m a single mum with 2 kids as well. Can’t see me sleeping tonight”. It has now said that it is bringing in the reduced hours at a further 30 stores. Feel bad for my colleagues that are affected.
In a message to staff, Tesco chief executive Matt Davies wrote: “Earlier this year, we announced some changes to help us run some of our stores a little more simply, while also improving the shopping trip for our customers”.
Tesco is reducing hours at many of its stores, which means jobs will go..
The changes happening in Warrington include making some modifications to when shelves are replenished.
“As part of this work, I wanted to let you know that this week we are announcing changes across many of our large stores”.
