September 30 will see the release of Masterminds, the comedy that stars Wilson, Jason Sudeikis, Kristen Wiig and Zach Galifianakis. The first Shanghai Noon was a real treat, and even the weaker sequel had its moments.

Hess would be the third director in the franchise – Failure to Launch’s Tom Dey helmed Shanghai Noon, while Wilson’s Wedding Crashers director David Dobkin lead Shanghai Knights.

The film, which starred Jon Heder as a hapless high school student grossed almost $45 million (£34.8 million) at the USA box office upon its debut. Miles Millar and Alfred Gough, who penned the first two movies, have come up with the idea for this one. It grossed $88 million at the global box office.

No release date has been assigned for Shanghai Dawn yet, but we’ll keep you updated on the movie’s progress as more relevant information comes in.

Gough & Millar wrote the story for Shanghai Dawn, with Theodore Riley and Aaron Buchsbaum providing the actual script for Spyglass Entertainment. “You can put the characters in all different situations and it works”. Shanghai Knights brought this unlikely duo back together for an adventure in London, England, where they assisted Wang’s sister in tracking down the man who killed her and Wang’s father.
