At the AGM, Ambani also announced that Jio services will become available from Monday, September 5, absolutely free for everyone for a month, as part of the “Jio welcome offer”, so everyone can try Jio’s services at absolutely no charge. To begin with, Reliance Jio will offer 10 tariff plans to choose from and data packs will start for as low as 5 paise per MB going up to Rs 50 for 1GB.
All domestic voice calls for Jio customers will be absolutely free, across India and at any time. “The era of paying for voice calls is ending”. “No Jio customer will ever have to pay for voice calls again”, Ambani announced amid massive applause.
Consumers are also being promised to wait for some time as their incumbent operators will try to match Jio.
India’s Reliance Industries unveiled its new telecom network on Thursday, touting free calls and rock-bottom data prices that sent shares of established telecom players into a nosedive on fears of an all-out price war.
Ambani also promised to offer data speeds of up to 1 gigabyte per second.
“The onus is rightly on the incumbent operators not to misuse their market power by creating unfair hurdles, when it comes to providing points of interconnect between their networks and Jio’s network”. Market expects described the move as a “knockout punch”, they also feel that other operators like Bharti Airtel, Vodafone and Idea Cellular are likely to formulate a new pricing and marketing strategy over the next few days to protect their market share.
Stating that the data must be “affordable”, he said Jio’s base rate will be one-tenth of the prevailing data rates. The cheapest 4G LTE enabled phone of Reliance’s own brand Lyf is available at Rs 2,999. Follow the below article to port your number to Jio.
