Colin Kaepernick of the San Francisco 49ers speaks to media September 1, 2016, after a 31-21 preseason win over the San Diego Chargers in San Diego.
On Thursday, Seahawks cornerback Lane, 26, followed Kaepernick’s example when he didn’t stand up for the national anthem during a game in Oakland, California.
Kaepernick will earn at least $12.3 million this season. He was joined by teammate Eric Reid in the most recent protest.
After the game, Jeremy admitted to The News Tribune that he sat during the national anthem because he was “standing behind Kaepernick”.
Without providing specifics, Kaepernick said he is working with organizations in communities of need that will get the $1 million he makes this year. “I want to try to help make America better”.
“Taking a knee is worth doing, because it’s people’s lives and issues that are far bigger than the game, ” said Reid, a third-year safety from Baton Rouge, La.
Some American military veterans, many of them black, came to his defense online, using the hashtag #VeteransForKaepernick to indicate that they supported his right to express himself.
CSN Bay Area obtained a letter sent by the Santa Clara police union to the 49ers saying that if the team doesn’t take action against its quarterback “it could result in police officers choosing not to work at your facilities”.
Thursday night’s game in San Diego was billed as “military night”, a tribute to the hundreds of thousands of military personnel who live in a city well known for its patriotism and military bases. I love people. That’s why I’m doing this. Ultimately, they made a decision to kneel rather than sit during their protest of national anthem in attempt to also show support for servicemen being honored during the Chargers’ 28th annual Salute to the Military game.
It was a solid game for Kaepernick at a very crucial time.
“This is not something that I am going to run by anybody”.
