Wisconsin had jumped out to a 13-0 lead but LSU nearly took the game back. Harris connected on 12-of-21 passes for 131 yards with a touchdown and two picks.

Samuel, a junior, caught two of Barrett’s touchdown passes and finished with nine receptions for 177 yards. The Tigers had a first down at the Wisconsin 45 with under two minutes to play after a 15-yard burst up the middle by Fournette, who gained 138 yards on 23 carries. His first was an interception of Wisconsin quarterback Bart Houston at the Badger 21. The Badgers finally got into the end zone early in the third quarter on a five yard run by Corey Clement to lead 13-0.

Wisconsin outgained LSU 339 yards to 257 and outrushed them, 134-126. For most of the second half, it appeared history would repeat itself.

It wasn’t a pretty win, but if the Badgers defense continues to play the way it did against LSU, Wisconsin may be one of the toughest teams in the nation this season.

Biegel was grateful that a defensive masterpiece wasn’t ruined by a late LSU score, but he credited Wisconsin’s experience for helping it come through down the stretch.

It was a defensive struggle for most of the game, but the Badgers held off a LSU rally to pull off the upset.

While LSU stole Aranda from Wisconsin, the Badgers defense was dominant for much of the game against the one-dimensional Tigers. But then things began to go LSU’s way. The Tigers lost to Penn State 19-17 in the Capital One Bowl on January 1, 2010; Clemson 25-24 in the Chick-fil-A Bowl on December 31, 2012, and Notre Dame 31-28 in the Music City Bowl on December 30, 2014.

After a false start penalty on third down from the LSU 4-yard line, Houston was pressured by nose tackle Greg Gilmore and threw into the endzone off his back foot.

This is the sixth time GameDay has been to a game between the SEC and Big Ten with SEC teams going 5-0. On second-and-5, Fournette broke off a 9-yard run to the LSU 44 and eclipsed 3,000 career yards. The Badgers gained 180 yards and the Tigers 64. A 2-point conversion after that TD tied it with 2:39 left. Wisconsin’s Chikwe Obasih recovered at the LSU 36.

Series Record: LSU leads 3-0. In fact, rumors have been circling around LSU that Leonard Fournette could be called upon to return kicks this season.

LSU received the opening kickoff but didn’t manage a first down. Few were able to deal with him last season, as he rushed for just under 2,000 yards and had 22 touchdowns.

Clement also had a respectable day, especially against LSU’s stingy defense, with 86 yards and a score on 21 carries.

Wisconsin led 13-0 with 10:55 remaining in the third quarter.

Wisconsin is 4-8 with GameDay in attendance. A year later, Wisconsin coach Bret Bielema left for Arkansas and was replaced by Gary Andersen, whose offensive coordinator, Andy Ludwig, relied more on a run-based offense that minimized the quarterback’s role. The ex-Alabama star was 22 years old when he made his only start in his rookie season on November 18, 1956, at City Field, the Packers’ home before Lambeau opened in 1957. Three plays into Wisconsin’s next drive, wideout George Rushing was stripped and White pounced on the loose ball. Then on the ensuing drive, LSU’s defense forced another turnover on a Jazz Peavy fumble. Here’s how the Tiger stack up against the Badgers. And, oh by the way, the Badgers still win 16-14.

The teams traded punts on the next four drives, setting up the game-winning drive from the Badgers midway through the fourth.
