The Florida Panthers and rising star Jonathan Huberdeau have agreed on a new, long-term contract extension.

Florida previously signed centers Nick Bjugstad (2014) and Barkov (2016) to six-year deals before signing Aaron Ekblad (eight years), Reilly Smith (five) and Vincent Trocheck (six) this summer.

Panthers President Dale Tallon said Huberdeau “is a highly talented and dynamic player who is another important piece of our team’s young core”.

“Florida effectively bought up four years of Huberdeau”™s free agency period for a cap-hit of $5.9 million per season.

Huberdeau’s deal – which was confirmed Tuesday by agent Allan Walsh – gives the Panthers 10 players who are under National Hockey League contracts for at least the next four seasons.

The Panthers will begin the 2016-17 regular season on October 13th with a home game against the New Jersey Devils. He scored 20 goals and added 39 assists a season ago, good for career highs in goals and points for the Atlantic Division-topping Panthers.
