Greta Van Susteren leaves Fox News after 14 years

Now, the scandal has claimed another host on the network, and it’s perhaps an unlikely departure: effectively immediately, Greta Van Susteren is GONE.

But Fox News co-presidents Bill Shine and Jack Abernethy jointly praised Van Susteren.

Despite the curious timing, Fox officials echoed Van Susteren, noting that there was not relationship between her departure and the settlement with Carlson.

Former 6 p.m. host Brit Hume will take over the time slot temporarily.

Fox News’ Howard Kurtz reported that Van Susteren had asked to renegotiate her contract after Fox News chief Roer Ailes left his position in the wake of a sexual harassment lawsuit filed by former anchor Gretchen Carlson.

She informed Fox News on Thursday that she would be ending her contract with the publication thanks to a clause in her deal that allows her to do so. Kelly’s contract expires later this year, and Fox dearly wants to keep her. Hannity’s vocal support of Donald Trump has made him a controversial figure in the conservative media.

Van Susteren, who rose to prominence during the O.J. Simpson murder trial as a legal analyst on CNN, had been with Fox News since 2002 and was a staple on the network.

“I love my staff, I love my colleagues, and I love the crews”, Van Susteren wrote.

Hume, 73, will take over her 7 p.m. show, “On The Record”, and provide analysis and news coverage through the election.

Carlson is one of several former Fox News employees who have accused former Fox News chairman and CEO Roger Ailes of sexual harassment.

Hume is a senior political commentator for Fox. The Washington-based lawyer said Tuesday that she took advantage of a contractual clause allowing her to leave and since it had a time limitation, she could not wait.
