J.J. Watt apparently won’t miss any regular-season games due to back surgery.

Head coach Bill O’Brien said Friday that it “looks decent” that Watt could return for Week 1. And, on Sunday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Watt is indeed expected to play in that game.

Brown, Houston’s left tackle for the last eight seasons, said last week he’s feeling better, but wouldn’t put a percentage on his chances of playing against Chicago. But the Texans activated Watt Saturday, and ESPN.com reported Sunday he is expected to play in the team’s opener September 11 against the Bears.

The defensive end also sat out the entire preseason in 2012 because of an elbow injury and was able to return for the season opener. O’Brien didn’t provide many details on what he saw from Watt and Newton, but did say that they were “working well”. I don’t plan on missing my first game now, but I can’t promise it.

The 6-foot-5, 289-pound defensive end led National Football League with 17.5 sacks last season, and has already recorded an insane 74.5 sacks and 15 forced fumbles through his first five seasons. He had surgery abdominal surgery in January. “So I’m just trying to keep that going and I think I’ll be out there pretty soon”.
