Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg meets Pope Francis

To show his commitment to the cause of alleviating poverty, Zuck gave the Pope a scale model of Facebook’s Aquila solar-powered, #internet-sharing drone. It’s one part of the company’s aggressive effort to bring more people online worldwide.

Zuckerberg says he hopes to have a demo of the project available sometime next month, and credits a lot of the AI’s success to his engineering team at work.

Zuckerberg came all the way from Italy, where he met with Pope Francis and spoke on the importance of proposed allowing people to contact each other and the web most especially in places with no software.

When President Obama met with Pope Francis in 2015, he gave him a key to the house of the first American woman who was canonized as a saint.

The 32-year-old said in January that he wanted to build something similar to Iron Man’s robot butler J.A.R.V.I.S.as part of a challenge for the new year.

Alongside Facebook’s Safety Check feature, which lets friends and family know that their loved ones are safe after national disasters, bombings or shootings, the trending news is a constant source of updates.

The Facebook CEO, who is building an artificial intelligence system to operate and control his home, says he’s nearly ready to show off what he’s been working on.

“The real pain and the real rebuilding happens over a long period of time”, he said.

Earlier this year, Zuckerberg went to China, where he held a rare meeting with China’s propaganda chief, Liu Yunshan, to discuss internet development in China, and how Facebook could be included.

He will be holding a live question and answer session later on Monday.

“It is an honor to be with you today”, Zuckerberg told the pope, adding that he hoped to help spread the pope’s “message of mercy and tenderness”.
