On Thursday, Tourism Secretary Wanda Teo, in a press briefing in Malacañang said Duterte wants Harvey out of the pageant. “I’m counting on the same sense of forgiveness and class-act among Filipinos”.
Speaking to reporters, Teo revealed that during her meeting with Duterte to discuss the preparations for the Miss Universe 2017, the President seemed unhappy when he learned that Harvey would remain the host of the prestigious event.
The President apparently still holds a grudge against Harvey who infamously read the wrong name when he announced the victor in the pageant past year, and effectively robbed Binibining Pilipinas Universe Pia Wurtzbach of her moment of glory as 2015 Miss Universe.
The news broke back in December that Steve Harvey would be invited back to host Miss Universe even after his major blunder previous year when he announced the wrong victor.
The Philippines hosting the Miss Universe 2016 will cost the private sector 11 million dollars. The county’s first title was won by Gloria Diaz in 1969.
Despite the President’s opposition, Teo said placing Harvey as the host of Miss Universe 2017 is a “final” decision because he has five-year contract with the organization.
“So that’s my problem”. The tourism secretary is instead considering getting in a local personality to co-host the event, the report said. Harvey has apologized for the incident.
Teo said, “Miss Universe Pageant is four months away”.

It looks like Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte is still upset with Miss Universe host Steve Harvey. “Everybody will be looking at us because during the Miss Universe contest, all the handsome places, destinations will be featured”, Teo said. Teo said Davao, Cebu, Iloilo, and Vigan are possible stops of the beauty contestants.
