BSNL had also announced a national unlimited 3G mobile data plan for Rs 1,099 and doubled the data usage limit in some existing plans, to counter competition in the market. For up to 1GB, users will get speeds of 2Mbps, while after that, users are free to use as much internet as is possible at 1Mbps speed. It will last for six months only, after which BSNL will migrate customers to the BBG Combo ULD 499 plan, with a cost of Rs. 499 per month. According to BSNL, it has launched a promotional unlimited wireline broadband plan that will cost users Re.

“The plan will enhance the customer experience towards wireline broadband services and attract new users to experience BSNL broadband services”, added BSNL’s Chairman cum Managing Director Anupam Shrivastava. He had said that against the prevailing market rate of Rs 250 per GB, Jio’s rates will be Rs 25-50 per GB depending on data usage. And very soon price war began when Airtel, Vodafone, and Idea Cellular began to slash tariffs to compete with Reliance Jio’s “disruptive” plans and offers.

With the launch of Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Jio threatening to push BSNL into irretrievable losses, the state-owned telecom company has introduced a new landline plan with true unlimited internet and voice calls for Rs 1,199 across India. These offerings do look appealing, but with BSNL it really needs to be seen if they can match their word.

The state-run company said it is also giving unlimited free data/local/STD calls for mobile customers, besides lowest rental plans for landline customers. The good news is that the plan actually is unlimited and there’s no FUP. Regular call rates are to Re 1 per 3 minutes for calls on the BSNL network and Rs 1.20 per 3 minutes outside the network. BSNL’s announcement comes a day after Reliance Jio said that it will offer unlimited data and voice calls till December 31.
