Colin Kaepernick’s show of civil disobedience by sitting out during the playing of the national anthem – to protest the treatment of black people by the police – has prompted a national dialogue about what it means for athletes to peacefully protest.
John Tortorella told ESPN Tuesday that his players will not play at the World Cup of Hockey this month if they don’t stand for the national anthem. Some players on the US hockey team were asked by media about Kaepernick’s protest.
Tortorella has talked a lot about the importance of his players representing their country well since camp opened.
We know, it feels far too early to be talking about back-to-school, but the truth is that it’s.
That makes him the flawless coach for Team USA, because it seems more and more than nobody else does either. Then we’ll have an incident on our hands because the coach of Team USA has censored one of his players – all while we pretend we live in the freest country on Earth.
“It’s (Kaepernick’s) right to do, but everyone here is just concentrating on representing their country and their flag”, Schneider said, according to USA Today.
Tortorella’s son is an active Army Ranger.
In Edmonton, I’ve heard the tourney isn’t great because Connor McDavid isn’t on Team Canada, and the Olympics is better because the best play for their country. “There’s nothing like it”. Although he never has played in a best-on-best tournament and struggled in his previous worldwide competition, an.876 save percentage in five games at the 2013 IIHF World Championship, he has been outstanding in pressure situations for the Tampa Bay Lightning the past two seasons. At least two other NFL players have joined his tactic and not stood for the playing of the anthem, as has Megan Rapinoe who took a knee in support of Kaepernick at a recent National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) game. The preliminary round is three games, with the top two teams in each four-team group advancing. It is unclear which anthem protocol will be followed. But the 58-year-old from Boston has always embraced the chance to help USA Hockey, and has taken his role as the Americans’ head coach for the World Cup very seriously.

There’s no doubt that when the anthem is played in any sporting event going forward for now, more eyes will be drawn to the players to see what they are doing.
