LSU’s Miles tries to put a hopeful spin on first-game flop

The redshirt senior made his first career start on a field made famous by the man he was named after, Green Bay Packers quarterback Bart Starr, and was a bit of a mixed bag. Defensive tackle Davon Godchaux led LSU with nine tackles.

“These next two weeks are very important”, Clement said. Regardless, I think we can all agree that it’s nice to have football back in our lives. Dixon intercepted Brandon Harris’ pass near the LSU sideline to seal the upset win, and following the play, he started celebrating with the ball and his hand raised when Boutte hit him. Of that interception, Houston simply said he should have thrown the ball away. What the team accomplished Saturday was nothing short … Does Boutte get a multiple-game suspension? “I thought that was big time”. It’s not so much the science of quarterback but kind of the art of quarterbacking and situational awareness.

And then at the end of the game, during his post-game press conference, Miles seemed to be at a loss for words when describing what he just saw, what America just witnessed, what Tiger nation had to sit through.

For a coach such as Chryst who cares so much about converting red-zone opportunities into points that he devotes nearly an entire practice to red-zone offense every week, such interceptions are particularly repugnant. “We sincerely apologize for his mistake”. “I loved the way he competed and responded when things didn’t go well”. “He put himself in the moment and whether it was good or bad, he turned the page”, Chryst said. He did really well.

MILES: “I think we’ve considered it and will consider it”.

Other receivers Houston targeted included Jazz Peavy with two catches for 11 yards and Robert Wheelwright with four catches for 60 yards. Every one of us saying “please don’t let this be the same old Tiger offense”. I’ve been getting to know him on a personal level too.

If you’ve wondered about the difference between coaching in college and the National Football League, I heard what turned out to be a timely and profound explanation driving down the road Friday listening to Steve Logan.

“I don’t really want to say that hurts him, but it helps him a lot because before anybody else tells him he did wrong, he knows he’s done wrong and he knows he has to correct it”. If we were truly serious about player safety, we wouldn’t only ask for stiff punishments when someone gets hurt.
