Six-year-old year girl takes on ax-wielding robbers
But a 6-year-old girl in Auckland instead stood up and ran toward an alleged robber breaking into her family’s store wielding an ax, reports the New Zealand Herald.

The footage shows the masked men kicking, punching and threatening employees with an axe and a crowbar, or iron lever, and smashing cabinets and stealing thousands of dollars worth of electronics. A group of attackers, who wore all black, stormed her family’s shop in Auckland, New Zealand – but rather than immediately running for cover, the young girl made a decision to fight back, local newspaper the New Zealand Herald reports.
The girl grabbed onto the leg of the man during the armed incident that ended in a dramatic police chase from the North Shore to west Auckland. The girl backs off after a moment, then leaves the frame to lead her grandfather through to another room.
Sarah Patel’s father, Suhail, told Storyful he is proud of his daughter for stepping up during the robbery. “But it was a shock because this type of thing doesn’t normally happen where we are”.
Suhail said his daughter was extremely fearless facing up to the man as he was holding what appeared to be a small axe. She told the paper she was “trying to save” Jordan Byrt, a young worker at the store. Patel’s mother Nashrin said her daughter initially thought the attacker was her father.
Mother Nashrin Patel drove in pursuit of the robbers’ getaway auto just so she could let police know their whereabouts. However, police managed to stop the vehicle using road spikes, which led to a pursuit on foot. (Now we see where Sarah gets her fearlessness!) The police were, indeed, able to catch them, and the five attackers – all teenagers – now face charges of aggravated robbery, injuring with intent and breaching bail.

The suspects made their getaway in a vehicle driven by a sixth person.
