Better late than never – Mika joins Sunderland

But now Federation Internationale de Football Association have allowed the move beyond the deadline for Mika, full name Michael Simões Domingues. A situation that left us in a precarious position but after chasing a number of targets – notably Joe Hart if rumours in the press are to be believed – Mika was chosen as the ‘keeper to come in to as cover for Pickford while Mannone is out.

Mika, whose full name is Michael Simoes Domingues, has signed a two-year contract at the Stadium of Light, and will provide competition to youngster Jordan Pickford, who started the Black Cats’ 1-1 draw at Southampton, and Vito Mannone, who is nursing a long-term injury.

In a goodbye video posted on Boavista’s Facebook page Mika said that the move was one he could not turn down, stating that it is “a dream of mine to play in the Premier League”.

Mika, a Portugal Under-21 worldwide, has been Boavista’s first-choice goalkeeper for two seasons.

The 25-year-old arrives at the Stadium of Light following approval from Federation Internationale de Football Association after the Portuguese club were unable to complete their requirements before the August 31 transfer deadline due to technical issues.

The Black Cats added the likes of Jason Denayer, Didier Ndong and Victor Anichebe last week, but they missed out on a deal for Portuguese shot stopper Mika.
