It’s a good news for coffee lovers as a recent study has revealed that regular consumption of caffeinated coffee can help in preventing the return of colon cancer after treatment and can even improve the chances of cure.
It also made people 33 per cent less likely to die from cancer or any other cause.
“Observational studies of patients with established colorectal cancer suggest that energy excess, as manifested by type 2 diabetes, obesity, sedentary lifestyle, Western pattern diet, high dietary glycemic load, and high intake of sugar-sweetened beverages, confer an increased risk of colon cancer recurrence and mortality”, researchers wrote.
“We found that coffee drinkers had a lower risk of the cancer coming back and a significantly greater survival and chance of a cure”, Fuchs added.
All the patients had stage III bowel cancer, meaning the disease had spread as far as the lymph nodes near the original tumour.
It’s the most current within the sequence of research studies displayed the advantages tea, that may lower the potential risk of diabetes, Parkinson’s and cancer, based on NBC News.
Dr. Charles Fuchs, the director of the gastrointestinal cancer center at Dana Farber, told WBZ NewsRadio 1030’s Diane Stern that the patients who regularly consumed coffee had a better result.
However, Fuchs is hesitant to make recommendations to patients until the results are confirmed in other studies.
Previous studies have shown coffee may have benefits against other cancers such as breast cancer, melanoma and prostate cancer.
