Strictly Come Dancing has revealed that TV and radio presenter Katie Derham is the fifth contestant confirmed in the line-up for this year’s contest.
She is a BBC presenter for Proms (an annual eight week season of classical music concerts) and also presents on Radio 3, and has hosted the Classical BRIT Awards.
“I just can’t wait to get started”.
“I’m a typical wedding dancer – two glasses of Prosecco and I’m truly fabulous”.
The 45-year-old broadcaster will join former Coronation Street actress Georgia May Foote, EastEnders star Kellie Bright, TV chef Ainsley Harriott and BBC host Jeremy Vine on the 13th series of the Saturday night dance contest.
Derham, who learned to conduct on the Clive Anderson-fronted BBC2 reality show Maestro, said that she was keen to test herself physically in the arts world she covers as a presenter. Vine is priced at 18-1 and Bright at 25-1.
And if Katie is crowned queen of the dance floor by the end of the series she will be following other newsreaders who have wowed viewers.

“‘My boss quite rightly thought I was too busy, there was a lot of pretty serious news going on at the time and it wasn’t the sort of thing he wanted me doing”, she said, adding the decision was “fair enough”.
