FBI unveils notes on Clinton’s use of private email

Clinton and her longtime aide and lawyer, Cheryl Mills, told FBI investigators during questioning that they had no knowledge of the technology company’s deletions.

Trump said Clinton’s answers to the Federal Bureau of Investigation “defy belief”. “I really don’t understand how she was able to get away from prosecution”, he said.

‘While her use of a single email account was clearly a mistake and she has taken responsibility for it, these materials make clear why the Justice Department believed there was no basis to move forward with this case, ‘ he said.

In the wake of Mrs. Clinton’s extremely risky handling of classified information, FBI Director James Comey said officials in her shoes normally face “security and administrative sanctions”, meaning they would have their security clearances revoked and would be fired.

Mrs. Clinton also said in March 2015 that she used private email so she could use only one digital device, and her legal team turned two Blackberries over to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

“She said she believed the “(c)” in several emails could happen to be a paragraph listing format.

The FBI focused on whether Clinton sent or received classified information using the private server, which was not authorized for such messages.

“She relied on State officials to use their judgment when emailing her and could not recall anyone raising concerns with her regarding the sensitivity of the information she received at her email address”, according to the report.

The latest developments highlight competing liabilities for Clinton. “This is exactly why I have called for her to be denied access to classified information”. After Sullivan said he was having issues getting her the document through secure fax, Clinton suggested he turn it “into nonpaper w/no identifying heading and send nonsecure”.

Chaffetz’s letter to the USA attorney for the District of Columbia, Channing Phillips, comes almost two months after the House committee similarly asked the same prosecutor to determine whether Clinton committed perjury and made false statements in testimony to congressional committees. He says the mushrooming “pay-for-play” scandal is the real reason the former secretary of state set up a private email system in the first place. They said no one at the State Department raised concerns during her tenure, and that Clinton said everyone with whom she exchanged emails knew she was using a private email address. Appropriate redactions have been made for classified information or other material exempt from disclosure under FOIA, it said.

As she was being confirmed as Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton contacted Colin Powell to ask him about his use of a Blackberry while in the same role.

Sometime between March 25 and 31 – weeks after the server was disclosed – the person realized that he did not make the email retention policy changes that had been requested months earlier.

The FBI said Mills had instructed the Platte River engineer in December 2014 to delete all emails from the server older than 60 days old.

And then there were those deleted emails. The written request, obtained by The Associated Press, is based on recent revelations from the FBI, which decided not to press for criminal charges after its own year-long investigation.

The FBI’s review also found no direct evidence that Clinton’s server was hacked but said her system would be a high-value target for foreign intelligence agencies and a sophisticated attacker would have been unlikely to leave behind evidence of a breach. Their information on the Clintons’ e-mail infrastructure dates back to Hillary Clinton’s tenure in the US Senate, and this new release shows how that infrastructure was intertwined with the information technology used by former president Bill Clinton’s staff. Investigators also found multiple instances of phishing emails sent to Clinton’s account.

In the end, while many voters may have already reached fatigue over the issue of Clinton’s emails or may have already made up their minds regarding its significance, the facts will continue to drip out.

It said eight of the devices were BlackBerries that she used while secretary of state, and the other five were devices, including BlackBerries, that she used after leaving office.

Much of the effort to wipe Hillary’s schlock, homebrew e-mail server came after the public became aware of it, and at the very time Hillary claimed she wanted the public to see her e-mails.

The documents do raise new questions about Clinton’s compliance with the Federal Records Act, which requires federal officials to preserve their work records and to hand them over to the National Archives when they leave government.
